How to Succeed in Cyber

Cyber schooling offers incredible flexibility and independence, allowing students to work from anywhere and have more control over their pace. Students can work ahead and finish early, remediate credits, and even graduate early if they so desired. However, this freedome also comes with the responsibility of managing your time and staying motivated, which can sometimes be challenging without the structure of a traditional classroom. If you're learning online, it's important to develop strong time management skills and practice self-discipline to ensure you're staying on track with your assignments and coursework. Keep reading for some helpful tips and strategies to help set yourself up for success!

Establish a Routine

Even though you're in charge of your own time, setting a routine can help keep you focused and help avoid procrastination. Create a schedule that includes:

  • Dedicated study time for each subject (30 min each)

  • Breaks to recharge and avoid burnout

  • Personal time for activities you enjoy

  • Weekly goals to stay on top of assignments and projects

Designate a Study Space

It's easy to get distracted at home, so find a quiet, organized spot where you can focus on school. A specific study place can signal to your brain that it's time to work, helping you stay in a productive mindset.

Break Tasks Into Chunks

Online assignments can feel overwhelming at times, especially with the flexibility of pacing. Break larger tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, and focus on completing one thing at a time. This can prevent you from feeling overwhelmed, and help keep your motivation high!

Limit Distractions

It's tempting to check your phone or social media, but distractions can easily de-rail your focus. When working on assignments, try to put your phone on Do Not Disturb or in another room. Try using apps that block distracting websites during study time. Listen to some soothing study music, and lock in!

Stay Organized

Keep track of important deadlines, assignments, and tests using Edgenuity's assignment calendar or a planner. Set reminders for due dates, and break large projects into smaller tasks. This will help you stay organized and reduce the stress of last-minute cramming.

Communicate!

Your teachers are there to support you, even in an online setting! If you're struggling with an assignment or concept, reach out to them via the messaging tool in Edgenuity or even via email. They can offer guidance, clarify expectations, provide resources, live office hours, or even reset assignments if need be.
